Grand Opening of Colliers' Copse!

Screenshot 2023-02-19 104041.png

At last we were able to hold the grand opening ceremony of the copse by no other than Michael Eavis (Glastonbury Festival Organiser)!

The ceremony also immersed the installation of a 5ft 6in metal miner at the entrance to the copse, the first of many to be installed by the Somerset Miners Welfare Trust around the Somerset Mining area to keep the history of the local mines going for many years to come. They will each have a unique information plaque giving a brief history of coal mining in that area. There were also photographs and illustrations in the hall depicting the local coalfield’s history.
